To help you decide which option is right for you, I have provided descriptions below of services that clients use in several common scenarios:

  • I recommend that you purchase my services à la carte in the following scenarios:

    1. Help me understand what I’m supposed to do: If you’re confident in your writing abilities but not sure what’s expected of you in your application essay, we can have a consultation that orients you to your audience and purpose. We’ll brainstorm together, and you’ll walk away with an outline that will guide you as you write your application essay. This usually takes about one hour ($90).

    2. Am I on the right track?: If you’ve outlined your application essay or written a rough draft and want to make sure you’re on the right track, I can offer a reader response and make recommendations for improving your content, structure, and style. I can offer this feedback either during a consultation or in writing. This usually takes about one hour ($90).

    3. I need a final set of eyes: If you’ve written an application essay that you feel confident about, but you want to make sure it’s error free, I can proofread it. I can offer this feedback either during a consultation or in writing. This usually takes between 30 minutes and one hour ($45-$90).

  • Like many of my clients, you may want support throughout the writing process for a single application essay. This might be because you’re applying to only one program, because you’re applying to programs that use a common application, or because you feel confident that you can transfer advice about one application essay to essays for other programs.

    This scenario typically involves:

    • An initial consultation to orient to the task, brainstorm, and outline the application essay (1 hour)

    • A consultation to discuss a rough draft or draft in progress OR written feedback on that draft (1 hour)

    • A consultation to review a revised draft OR written feedback on a revision (.5 - 1 hour)

    • A final round of proofreading (.5 - 1 hour)

A basic bundle of three hours ($240) or four hours ($320) is a good choice for clients who want these services for a single application essay.

  • You might be applying to multiple programs with different essay prompts or a single program that asks for several different essays—for example, a personal statement, statement of purpose, and diversity statement. If this is the case for you, you might want support throughout the writing process for several application essays.

In this scenario, I provide whatever support is needed to produce multiple polished application essays that makes you proud. This typically involves:

    • For each essay, a consultation to orient to the task, brainstorm, and outline the application essay (1 hour for the first essay, .5 hour for subsequent essays)

    • For each essay, a rough draft or draft-in-progress consultation OR written feedback on the draft (1 hour per draft)

    • As needed, consultations to review revised drafts OR written feedback on revisions (.5 - 1 hour per essay)

    • For each essay, a final round of proofreading (.5 - 1 hour per essay)

A basic bundle of five hours ($400) or a premium bundle of six hours ($420) or seven hours ($490) is a good choice if you want to be guided through the process of writing two or three essays. If you want this level of support for more than three essays, talk to me about what size premium bundle will be best.
